“Sinulog isn’t just about the dancing and the music and the partying, it’s more for a lot of Filipinos it’s really about devotion,” Canadian traveler Kyle Jennermann opens his new video featuring the Sinulog Festival, an annual nine-day celebration that honors the Sto. Nino and commemorates the acceptance of Christianity by Filipinos.
After years of traveling around the world, Jennermann chose to stay in the Philippines and began a journey to “becoming Filipino.” This personal project has allowed him to try many activities that are part of the Pinoy culture including hosting a fiesta, learning the ways of the coconut, trying out many Pinoy delicacies, and now joining Sinulog.
He has been based in Central Visayas since 2014. The video also shows an early morning mass in Mandaue City, the fluvial parade, and street dancing. Give it a watch below:
