La Union, popularly called “ElYu” by its regular visitors, is one of the favorite beach destinations near Manila. Its fame kickstarted in the 2000s and the influx of tourists started as many young entrepreneurs chose the province, especially the seaside areas like San Juan and Agoo, as their base. The launch of TPLEX ( Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway) further made it easier for beach lovers to travel from Manila to the northern provinces including La Union.
