More detailed El Nido travel guide here: El Nido Budget Travel Guide

El Nido has many beaches worth visiting, and one of which is Las Cabanas (also known as Marimegmeg Beach). The beach may not have the fine white sand of others you’ll see while island hopping, but it is beautiful in its own way. It has golden sand that glistens during blue hour and just before sunset. This is the best place to relax and unwind after going on one or two island hopping tours.

How to Get There

Nearest Airport: El Nido Airport, also known as Lio Airport (Palawan); Puerto Princesa International Airport (Palawan); Francisco B. Reyes Airport, also known as Busuanga Airport (Palawan)

By Air

  1. There are many flights to and from Puerto Princesa. From Manila, major airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia have daily and regular flights. Buy your plane tickets months in advance to get the best and lowest possible price.

There are also direct flights to El Nido from Manila via Air SWIFT, but this will cost you more.
  2. Once in Puerto Princesa, you have the option to board the RoRo and Cherry Bus or one of the many vans that travel to El Nido. The bus option costs around P290-P480/way and the van’s fare costs around P550 to P600 per way.
  3.
Via van, head to Robinson’s Mall where the van terminal is located.
Via bus and RoRo bus, go to Junction 1 (P8), and then ride a multi-cab going to San Jose Terminal. You can also hire a tricycle for P80-100.

  4. Once you arrive in El Nido, take a tricycle going downtown or directly to the beach or your hotel.

Entrance Fee and Other Charges

  • Entrance Fee: FREE
  • Camping Fee: Visitors don’t usually camp here because there are restaurants and resorts offering beachfront lounge chairs or they simply rest under the shade of trees.
  • Cottage Rental Fee: Rates vary depending on the resort.
  • Others: P150 (one-way tricycle fare from town center, special trip)

Don’t Miss

  • Marimegmeg Beach is a great place to take a break from island hopping while in El Nido. Wade in the waters or go for a swim, get a tan, play a few rounds of volleyball or Frisbee, read a book, drink a cold beer, or just enjoy the beautiful beachscape and landscape.
  • You can see silhouettes of the nearby islands and the rock formations towering over the waters.
  • Visit later in the day to enjoy one of the best sunsets in the Philippines.

Don’t Forget

  • You’ll need enough cash. Even if there are ATMs in town, there are often long lines and chances of those machines running out of money is relatively high.
  • Bring a mat or anything to lie on the beach during your stay.
  • Bring a volleyball or Frisbee to have a few games while in the beach or have some snacks and cold drinks while waiting for the sunset.
  • Bring a power bank to keep your phone and camera charged for the trip.
  • Follow the rules and regulations. Leave no trace behind.

If You Have More Time and Budget

  • You can join the island hopping tours to different parts of El Nido. You can also spend another afternoon or day beach bumming in Nacpan Beach.
  • If you have a longer trip, you can board a boat bound for Coron.
