Nasugbu is one of those areas in Batangas that had an early taste of development. Its beaches are among those lined with long-established resorts and popular with locals and tourists alike. Some of its coves and beaches are tucked away in exclusive villages and subdivisions, requiring membership and/or advanced reservation to access them such as Hamilo Coast, Tali Beach Subdivision, Punta Fuego, Kawayan Cove, and Canyon Cove. While some are privately-managed, most are still open to the public with no need for prior booking. One such beach is Calayo Beach.
Once a quiet fishing village, it gradually transformed into a beach destination, which also serves as a jump-off point to other coves and islands in the area. The entire stretch of Calayo Beach has fine light brown sand with blue-green waters. The majority of visitors are local tourists and beach campers.

How to Get There
Nearest Airport: Ninoy Aquino International Airport, also known as Manila International Airport (Manila)
By Land
- From Manila, board a bus bound for Nasugbu, Batangas (P160-250). DLTB (Buendia), San Agustin Bus Line (Taft), and St. Gabriel Bus (PITX) have direct routes to Nasugbu. The travel time is 3-4 hours, depending on the route and the traffic.
- Option 1: Alight at Nasugbu Bus Terminal (town proper), you have the option to ride a tricycle or a jeepney to Barangay Calayo. If your group is composed of two to three persons, you can hire a tricycle (P400-500) to take you to Calayo Beach. This is fair since Calayo is more or less half an hour from the town center. If your group is big, you can hire a jeepney. Negotiate the cost based on the size of your group or the vehicle.
Option 2: If you took the bus from PITX to Nasugbu via Kaybiang Tunnel, get off at Barangay Looc court. It’s best to remind the driver or conductor, so you won’t miss the stop. From the court, you can hire a tricycle (P100/max 3 pax) to Calayo. The journey is around 10 minutes. This option is much shorter and cheaper compared to coming from the town center. - Once there, you can rent a room, a cottage, or a table in one of the resorts lining the beach. If you are planning to stay overnight, it’s recommended to book your accommodation in advance, especially if your trip falls on a weekend or a holiday.
If you are traveling using a private vehicle from Manila, you can take take the SLEX or the CAVITEX. Whichever route you want to take, it’s best to turn on your Google Maps or Waze App to help you navigate easily. Leave early in the morning, especially if you are just going on a day tour.

Don’t Miss
- Swimming! The water is mostly calm, so it’s perfect even for those who are not seasoned swimmers and for groups with kids. But to be on the safer side, don’t go too far from the shore if you really don’t know how to swim.
- Sun bathing and beach bumming. The sand is fine here, so you can just chill and lie on it for that summer tan or golden summer glow.
- Go island hopping. As previously mentioned, Calayo Beach is the jump-off point to other beaches and coves in Nasugbu. Discuss the itinerary and inclusions with your boatman.
- Disconnect to connect with nature. A significant portion of Calayo suffers weak cellphone network and signal, so you’ll experience intermmitent internet or data connection or none at all. But hey! This is also a great opportunity to really enjoy nature and your time away from the city.
- Watch the sunset. Enjoy a front seat view as the sky turns into a stunning canvas as the sun bids farewell.
Don’t Forget
- Take note of the swimming schedule. For everyone’s safety, there’s a barangay ordinance that allows swimming at the beach from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM only.
- Bring sun protection. It can be a hat, a scarf, and/or a marine-friendly sunscreen (those without oxybenzone, parabens, and benzophenone).
- Bring insect or mosquito repellent lotion. This is a must if you are also planning to go beach camping in one of the coves, possibly Bituin Cove (Hannukah Beach) or Layag-Layag Beach.
- Speaking of camping, bring your own tent. This will save you money if you are planning to rough it out.
- As much as possible, bring your own food and drinks to save money. You can make a stop at Nasugbu public market to buy your food before heading to Calayo. The main road that runs parallel to Calayo Beach is lined with small stores and eateries selling food and drinks in case you run out of food supply.
- Bring a power bank or an extra battery for your gadgets. This is especially useful when you go island hopping.
- Be a responsible traveler/tourist. Keep in mind the “Leave No Trace” principle: leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photos, and kill nothing but time.
If You Have More Time and Budget
- Visit other attractions in Nasugbu like Fortune Island, Punta Fuego, Hamilo Coast, Tali Beach, and Canyon Cove.
- If you have a car, you can do a stopover in Tagaytay before heading back to Manila.
- If you are into hiking, you can scale Mount Batulao or Mount Talamitam; both are located in Nasugbu, Batangas. Mount Palay-Palay or Pico de Loro, which reopened to the Public in 2023, is also a possible hike. The jump-off point is in Ternate, Cavite (DENR Station).
