Best Time to Visit
San Juan is a popular beach destination near Manila, and it draws large crowds from March to May, which marks the peak summer season in the Philippines. The same holds true for holidays and weekends.
The off-peak seasons and weekdays are the best times to go because rates are lower and the crowds are thinner. If going on weekends or during holidays and peak season is your only option, it is best to book in advance to secure a cocoon accommodation.
How to Book a Cocoon Unit
Cocoons provides four varieties of sleeping pods that are matched with the location and the scenery: Garden, Premier Garden, Poolside, and Premier Poolside. It is essential to plan your visit in advance to secure a unit. One of your options is to reserve online through Agoda. Cocoons Capsule Room Rates
Each sleeping pod is perfect for solo travelers, couples, and small families. As mentioned earlier, you can book a cocoon unit with a garden view or a pool view. The maximum capacity per unit is two adult persons, but it can still accommodate one additional child (0-6 years old).

The club includes a swimming section with an infinity pool, children’s pool, cabanas, and loungers. This area acts as the primary reception space for day visitors to Club Laiya. Cocoons Amenities
Some units come with an outdoor personal lounge area equipped with two chairs and a table, while all units are provided with a drying clothes rack. Cocoons provides its guests with shared toilet stalls and shower rooms, located just a few steps from the cocoon clusters.
We were only able to take photos of the exterior of Club Laiya’s Cocoons, but we can share the photos we took when we booked an overnight stay at CaSoBe’s Cocoons in Calatagan. The interiors are quite similar. These are the typical amenities you’ll find inside your air-conditioned cocoon unit:

Things to Do
- Go swimming. Make the most of the family-friendly swimming pool area and the beach. The swimming pool area has depths ranging from 2ft to 4ft, but kids should still be accompanied by an adult or a guardian at all times. As for the beach, the waters here are usually calm and clear.
- Beach Bumming. Feel free to immerse yourself in a good book, enjoy the sunshine, stroll along the beach at a leisurely pace, or simply relish the present moment. The vast expanse of shoreline is adorned with soft, pale sand, ideal for absorbing some Vitamin Sea!
- Avail of the water sports. You can play beach volleyball with friends or other beach goers. You can also try kayaking and parasailing. If you are feeling more adventurous, ride a banana boat, a fly fish, or a disco ball UFO. Renting a jet ski or a speed boat is also possible. See the rates in the next section.
- Take lots of photos! With plenty of time to explore the resort, seize the opportunity to capture as many photos as possible. Rather than only storing your memories in your mind, why not document them through photographs?
- Enjoy the view from your cocoon. Each sleeping pod presents either a pool view or a garden view. But a few steps from your unit will reward you with relaxing views of the beach and the sea.

Where to Eat
These are the two onsite restaurants you’ll find on this side of Club Laiya.
- The Sands. It mainly serves modern Filipino dishes. It is located near Cocoons, the reception lobby, and the swimming pool area.
Operating Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The opening schedule is subject to weather conditions.
- Captain Barbozza. It is a beachfront bar and restaurant, offering comfort food, local and international dishes, and cocktails. It is closer to the sand pit lounge area and another concept hotel within Club Laiya — Camperisti.
Operating Hours: 11:00 AM – 1:00 AM. The opening schedule is subject to weather conditions.
How to Get There
Cocoons is nestled within the 24-hectare Club Laiya, a coastal real estate development project of Landco Pacific Corporation in San Juan, Batangas. The resort is located in Barangay Laiya Aplaya, which can be reached within a 30-minute drive from the town center.
The closest landmarks are the NEW San Juan Municipal Hall and the Municipal Tourism Reception Area along San Juan – Laiya Road in Barangay Buhay na Sapa. Whether you’re using a private vehicle or public transportation, the travel time from Manila typically takes three to four hours, depending on traffic conditions.
Private Car
If you decide to drive your car going to Cocoons at Club Laiya, just use your smartphone and open your preferred navigation app — Google Maps or Waze. Then you are all set to go! For reference, here’s an overview of the journey:
- Head south on SLEX and STAR Tollway, then take Lipa or Ibaan Exit. Both options will lead you to Padre Garcia.
- Travel across Padre Garcia and Rosario towns. Journey on until you reach San Juan’s town center.
- Make a right turn onto San Juan – Laiya Road. Your landmark is the Old Municipal Hall in downtown San Juan. Keep driving until you reach the Municipal Tourism Reception Area, located right beside the New San Juan Municipal Hall.
- Pay the ecological fee at the Municipal Tourism Reception Area. The ecological fee is P20 per person.
- Then, keep on driving for about 20 minutes until you reach Club Laiya. The entrance to the resort’s driveway is on your left, right after the bridge. A security personnel will greet you and point you to the parking area.
- Confirm your booking and check in at the reception. If you’re part of a group, select someone as your representative. Finally, a staff member will guide you to your assigned cocoon unit.
Public Transportation
Manila to San Juan Town Center
- From Manila, hop on a bus bound for San Juan, Batangas. The journey is around three hours, depending on the route and the traffic conditions. The fare is P300-350 per person. For more details, you can also check out our MANILA to BATANGAS Bus Guide article.
- Get off at the bus terminal in downtown San Juan and make your way to the public market. Walk for about five minutes along Kalayaan Street to San Juan Public Market. Jollibee and Chowking are your landmarks.
San Juan Town Center to Club Laiya
- Get on a jeepney or charter a tricycle to Club Laiya. The jeepney and tricycle terminals are located near San Juan Public Market. The jeepney fare is P50-60, while the tricycle fare is more or less P350. The travel time is approximately 30 minutes.
- Alight at Club Laiya. Taking a jeepney, which is cheaper, also involves a 200-meter walk from the main road to the resort’s reception area. Hiring a tricycle is more expensive, but it will drop you off right at the walkway leading to the receiving area.
- Confirm your booking and check in at the reception. If you’re part of a group, select someone as your representative. Finally, a staff member will guide you to your assigned cocoon unit.
NOTE: Since we traveled by private car, we’re not sure if public modes of transportation like jeepneys and tricycles also pass by the Municipal Tourism Reception Area for the collection of ecological fees. We’ve reached out to the Tourism of San Juan, Batangas Facebook page and was advised to either ask the driver or opt to pay the ecological fee upon arrival at your chosen resort.
Important Reminders
- Follow the swimming schedule and rules. You can swim in the pool and at the beach until 6:00 PM only. To keep the pool area clean, eating in and around the pool area is not allowed.
- Make sure to wear proper swimming attire. You can wear any of the following: swimsuits, rash guards, board shorts, and trunks.
- Bringing outside food is permitted, but corkage fee will apply. Alcoholic drinks are also subject to corkage fees. You may bring light snacks such as cookies, chips, chocolates, and sodas without incurring extra fees.
- The mobile signal and coverage are excellent. This is true for both Smart and Globe networks. Again, one of Cocoons’ inclusions is free WiFi connection, so you’ll have no problem connecting to the internet.
- Fur babies are welcome! However, only dogs and cats are allowed. Take note of the pet policy, including height (not more than .8m) and weight (maximum of 20 lbs) requirements. Also, a pet fee of P1,500 per pet applies for overnight stay.
Other Practical Tips
Here are other tips before you go:
- Let’s be responsible travelers. Please bring your trash with you if there’s no trash bin in sight. Remember the “Leave No Trace” principle: Take Nothing But Photos, Kill Nothing But Time, Leave Nothing But Footprints!
- Start your day early. Leaving Manila early means beating the rush hour traffic and spending more time at the resort than on the road. This is really helpful, especially if you are only going on a day tour.
- Always keep yourself hydrated. As the saying goes: “Drink your water, beach listers!” Don’t forget to bring your trusted reusable water tumbler, which is also a great way to practice sustainable tourism.
- Protect yourself from the harmful UV rays. Bring sun protection like hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. By the way, grab sunscreen brands that are reef-friendly. Avoid those products containing chemicals that are harmful to marine life like oxybenzone, benzophenone, and parabens.
- Wear aqua shoes or other protective footwear. By doing so, this will protect your feet from stepping on small stones and crushed shells. Although a significant portion of the beach is covered in soft sand, the area where the water meets the shore is peppered with small stones and crushed shells.
