We all know that the first destination that comes to mind when someone thinks of Aklan is Boracay, then probably followed by Iloilo. Culasi won’t probably ring a bell or it might take you a while to know where it is. For those looking for an island getaway, the relative anonymity of this small town in the province of Antique may entice you even more to discover it. If you do make that trip, Malalison/Mararison Island should be on your itinerary.

How to Get There
Nearest Airport: Caticlan Airport (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport); Kalibo International Airport; Iloilo International Airport (Cabatuan Airport)
By Air
VIA CATICLAN
- The closest airport from Manila to Culasi, the town near Mararison Island, is Caticlan. At the airport board a tricycle that will take you to the jetty port.
- From that area, there are buses bound for Culasi.
- Once in Culasi, head to the port and rent a boat bound for the island; the rental cost is around P1000 roundtrip and includes the guide fee.
VIA KALIBO
- The flight tickets to Caticlan are often expensive that’s why most people book a flight bound for Kalibo instead.
- From Kalibo, there are buses bound for San Jose, tell the driver you’ll alight at Culasi. The fare is around P120 and will take approximately two hours.
- Once in Culasi, head to the port and rent a boat bound for the island; the rental cost is around P1000 roundtrip and includes the guide fee.
VIA ILOILO
- Alternatively, book a flight for Iloilo City. Once there, go to the Molo Van and Bus Terminal and board a bus bound for Pandan or Culasi (P200, one way). The trip may take around 3 hours.
- Once in Culasi, head to the port and rent a boat bound for the island; the rental cost is around P1000 roundtrip and includes the guide fee.
By Sea
- Alternatively, you can get to the island by boarding a bus bound for Batangas pier from Manila and getting on an overnight and day boats bound for Caticlan. 2GO has three trips during the week (Sunday, Monday and Thursday); the lowest fare, the super value class, costs around P1,264 (one way).
- From the ferry terminal, look for the buses bound for Culasi.
- Once in Culasi, head to the port and rent a boat bound for the island; the rental cost is around P1000 roundtrip and includes the guide fee.
Entrance Fee and Other Charges
- Entrance Fee: It depends on where you choose to stay on the island.
- Camping Fee: It depends on the resort. Tent rental ranges from P150 – P250 (depending on the size)
- Cottage Rental Fee: Rates vary from one resort to another.
- Environmental Fee: P40
- Guide Fee: Should you want to get a tour guide, rate is P250 (4 pax).
- Other Services Fee: Snorkeling gear rent (P50, 3 hrs); “Paluto” (P80-100)
