Baguio is known as the ‘Summer Capital’ because of its year-round cool weather and proximity and accessibility to many cities to its north and south. The city has grown in popularity over the years. The developments in and just outside of it have made it easier and faster to visit and have a comfortable stay. Despite these changes, it is still a good place to go for a short staycation or as a jump-off point to the mountainous regions of the Cordilleras.
The city has a number of attractions that make it a popular destination. There are a handful of museums you can visit to learn more about the culture of the region; some notables include BenCab Museum, Camp John Hay Historical Core (the Bell House, Amphitheater, Cemetery of Negativism), and the Baguio Museum.
You can also spend half a day just chilling (literally and figuratively) by hanging out at the city’s parks. You can visit Mines View Park, Burnham Park and/or the Botanical Garden while in Baguio. The Diplomat Hotel is another famous destination; the hotel gained popularity because of the many horror stories people have heard about it. Some accounts say you’ll hear screaming, the clattering of dishes, and the banging of windows when you dare to visit. If you visit during the right time, you can enjoy the festivities of the Panagbenga Festival. This festival of flowers is a colorful event and is a photographer’s dream.
You can also make a couple of short day trips to nearby destinations such as the strawberry farm and the Stobosa Houses (the colorful houses on the side of a hill). The city is also a possible jump-off point to famous hiking spots such as Mt. Pulag and Mt. Ulap.
You’ll have plenty of accommodations to choose from when you plan your trip to Baguio. There are different types of hotels across the budget spectrum, from affordable to luxury. Here are the top recommended places to stay in Baguio as rated by Agoda users, in no particular order.
