Virgin Island (also known as Pungtud or Pontod Island) is probably the most iconic island destinations in Bohol. Its main draw: a lengthy sandbar that curls and fades into the sea like the tail of a mischievous tadpole (or a sperm cell; there, we said it). The sandy runway makes for a postcard perfect backdrop! The surrounding areas are mostly grassy, though.
Material: Sand
Nearest airport: Tagbilaran
How to get there: Many resorts and tour operators in Tagbilaran and Panglao Island offer tours around these islands. Boat rental costs from P1500-P2500.
Don’t miss: Coconut and banana que (fried bananas on stick) vendors offer delicious merienda on the island! If you’re feeling a little adventurous, try eating raw sea urchins (minus the spines, of course). You can spot the vendors easily if they haven’t welcomed you to the island upon docking yet.
If you have more time: Go on an island-hopping tour and visit Balicasag Island and Pamilacan Island. You can also see dolphins in the wild!
Where to stay: There are no available accommodations on Virgin Island. But because it is easily accessible, consider choosing a resort in Panglao Island.
